We all need a bit of motivation once in a while and competitions can provide that for many kids. Our events are designed to be fun but can also be a testing arena to measure your efforts.
Our events are based on 4 major components:
- Safety – Not only do we strive to have a well-manned course in a low to no-auto traffic area but we hold training sessions to make sure all participants are well-versed in the rules and common practices of our events.
- Sportsmanship – Winning is about being your best, not beating another person. We encourage kids to support others and to play fair and honestly. We even have an award each event to recognize one special kid that exemplifies the true meaning of being a good sport.
- Fun – If it’s not fun then we know the kids won’t want to do it.
- Environmental awareness – Events and programs can produce a lot of waste but we strive to reduce the footprint we leave on our community. At each event our goal is to have our trash pile be less than our recycling and compost pile. We accomplish that by using disposable products that can be composted or recycled, providing reusable water bottles instead of disposable ones and encouraging everyone to compost their organic waste. We live in an area with many beautiful parks and areas to play in so we promote our public areas and encourage everyone to use them and take care of them. We hope that these values that are practiced at KIT events will make it back home to make a real impact in our world.
Race for kids Please remember that these are races for kids, run by volunteers and designed primarily for safety, sportsmanship and fun. All spectators, volunteers and participants are expected to act accordingly. Anyone showing disruptive behavior will be asked to leave the premises immediately.

Training sessions for Tri, Du & Adventure Races: All registered participants may attend the free training sessions to get them familiar with the race course, transitions and get any questions answered. We highly recommend these sessions to assure your racer they will be comfortable on race day. All sessions will be held on location at the race venue (meet in the parking lot unless otherwise stated) and conducted by KIT staff. Bring everything you would on race day as we will ride and run the course.
Please reserve a space by emailing us at info@kidsintraining.org
USAT membership: Since our triathlons, duathlons & adventure races are sanctioned by USA Triathlon, all kids must be USAT members to participate in these events. Go to www.usatmembership.com for membership details – it only takes a few minutes to sign up and costs only $5 for the whole year. Your child must present their membership card to pick up their packet (a temporary card can be printed from the USAT website).
USAT “Age Up” Rule: Everyone competes as their age at the end of the year. We allow a child to pick whatever course they want however they will only be eligible for place awards for the age group they actually are in or older. They will, however, still receive a finisher medal for finishing whichever course they race. For example if your child is 7 on race day but 8 by the end of the year their age group is 8-10 but they can race in the 5-7 course. They will not be eligible for a place award. We ask this question on our questionnaire to be filled out about 1 month before the event.
Age group awards & Results: We will present all finishers with an award and enter their bib number into a raffle filled with goodies. Age Group, Team Challenge and Relay awards will be presented at the end of the race. Results will be posted on the website that week.
Discounts: All ClubKIT members receive a discount on all KIT events. We offer financial assistance if needed. Please contact us at info@kidsintraining.com
KIT basic training schedule & tips: If you want to have a fun race you must prepare for it so make sure you train well before the event. Whatever your distance is for the race, bike or run that distance slowly until you can complete it without stopping. Then try combining a bike/run, which is called a “brick”. When you can do the bricks comfortably, try the single or brick distance a bit faster, even if sometimes you have to take short jogs in between intervals. Try to get in 3-5 sessions per week and make sure you get your parents to try it as well!
Refund Policy: All but $10 of your registration fee will be refunded until one month before the event or until the race fills, whichever comes first. If the race fills, 50% of your entry will be refunded until one month before the event. Dates are posted in each event page. **Race registrations are non-transferable**
Inclement Weather Policy: In the event of inclement weather, the race directors have the right to reschedule the start time and/or cancel the competition. Delays or cancellation will be posted on our phone line the morning of the event by 3 hours before the event. Unfortunately, due to costs that will have already incurred, we will not be able to refund fees; however, will do our best to reschedule the event at a later date.

Tips to a successful race day
- Register online (the email you use to register will be the one we use to correspond with. If it’s not one that you check frequently please contact us with another email to use)
- Make sure you have a USAT membership by the first training session your child attends or by race day if they do not attend a training session.
- About one month before the event you will receive an email requesting additional information such as USAT membership number, swim time, etc. Please fill out this form asap as this information will help us place your child in the best start order and get the correct shirt size.
- Attend the training sessions to get familiar with the rules and course.
- About 3 days before the event you will receive Race Day Instructions and any last minute notices about the event.
- Attend early packet pickup if you can to avoid potential long lines on race day.
Race Day
- Pick up your packet if you have not done so already
- Set up for the race, know your child’s approximate start time
- Attend the information meeting about 15 minutes before the start
- Make sure your child is prepared, knows the course and rules
- Cheer everyone on and have a great race
- There will be water stations on the run course and your child can bring water in the transition area but we do not allow the usage of bottles on the bike portion of the course for safety reasons.
- After the race your child will funnel through the finish line, staying in finish order, and will receive their finisher medal and have the bottom portion of their bib torn off by a volunteer. Do not tear this strip off beforehand as this helps with any discrepancies in timing as well as be their raffle ticket. Food and drink is available.
- After the last finisher is done we normally have a tot run and/or duathlon race, hold a raffle then give out place awards. Results will be posted on the website by the next day.
Other things to remember
- Basic rules of passing (only when its safe and yell “passing on your left!”), 3 bike lengths in between each cyclist and be safe and courteous on the course.
- ONLY participants on the course! Sorry, no adults allowed on the race course. I think you can understand this could create a safety issue as most parents would only be watching their own child and may get in the way of another. The course is lined with volunteers and one will be able to see your child every step of the way. If there is an area of concern you may want to have a volunteer from your family be posted at that site. We always have kids that have inhibitions about racing alone and once they see all the other kids out there by themselves they usually forget them.
- We include the training sessions for those registered which goes over all the rules and we ride/run the course so the kids (and parents!) can get comfortable and confident for race day. We will need a parent to ride and run the course with anyone under 10.
- Triathlon swim start order is based on a child’s estimated swim time for the distance they are racing. Fastest swimmers first to alleviate passing in the pool as much as possible. There is at least 10 seconds in between each swimmer and a small break in between each age group. This is done to make sure the course does not get congested. Estimated start times for each age group is 11-17 race start time, 8-10 about 30 minutes later, 5-7 about 60 minutes after.
- Swim is normally a snake swim (one direction in each lane) in a pool.
- Relays – The relay age category will be based on the oldest age in the group and subject to award eligibility when “aging down”. Relay members will tag the next in the transition area. No rules as to who swims, bikes or runs.
- If the racer needs assistance in the swim they can use a kickboard or flotation device. Any such assistance will make them not eligible for a place prize but they will still be eligible for a finisher medal. We just want them to have a fun experience so they will continue to be active outside. Any other assistance your child may need please contact us to discuss and we will work it out.
- Training wheels are fine
